When KM is NOT a change program

This year, we have the pleasure of developing KM for a major start-up company. For the first time ever, we start with a blank slate. The business processes are not in place, the accountabilities are not in place, the structures and technologies are still being firmed up. We can build KM into the work processes from day 1.

This requires a rethink in terms of KM strategy. Our normal change-management approach is not needed, as there is nothing in place to change. Instead we need to make sure that KM is fully embedded in, and linked with, the business processes and management systems so that it becoms part of "business as usual" from the outset.

Our issue will be embedding and sustaining, not changing.
