Ideal management support for KM

What's the best kind of support your KM pilot or program needs? Here's one example!

This quote comes from an interview with a Knowledge Management lead. He had been running a KM pilot of a process rather like Business Driven Action Learning, where his team were looking for innovative solutions based on lessons from the past. This is what he said about the manager attitude
“Our manager said some things that were really critical. He said "I really want to try this process, I will give you space, and I will absolutely not bank the targets that you come up with, because that will take the fun out of the game", and he said to that team "you can have the resources you need to make it work".."
That's close to the ideal manager attitude for supporting and developing a KM culture
  • Providing support
  • Providing space
  • Providing resources
  • Allowing the team to set stretch targets, without pressure, and
  • Setting expectations for delivery of something new and different and fun
And the result, of course, is that the team delivered beyond everyone's expectations, even their own.
